Cyd Cymru – Collective Energy Switching
Posted on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 in General
Cardiff Council and the Vale of Glamorgan Council have been successful in receiving funding to run a collective energy switching campaign, ‘Cyd Cymru/Wales
The idea behind collective energy switching is similar to bulk-buying products in order to get a better price. However, in a collective switch those
interested in receiving a better deal group together as a ‘collective’ before approaching the energy suppliers. The larger the number of people that get
involved, the more attractive the group of customers are likely to be to the energy suppliers.
The more people that group together the bigger the savings we could make! By buying energy together, participants of previous collective switching schemes
have saved between £60 and £250 per household per year.
The scheme will be opening on the 21st October for registration. As a partner of Cardiff and the Vale Council, the Energy Saving Trust have
been contracted to do the partner promotion for the scheme, and we can provide you with co-branded marketing literature to encourage people to sign up. Once registration opens, you will also be able to sign up online.
We can also offer (free of charge to organisations in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan):
For those who work on the front line which clients, we can offer a free of charge 2 hour training session covering understanding energy bills, the process
behind collective switching, signing people up to the scheme and other energy supplier support. Please note, if you have already received fuel poverty and
energy efficiency training, this training will be different as it will concentrate purely on energy bills, how to read and understand them (we will have
lots of example energy bills with us on the day) and the switching process.
Briefings sessions can be designed for your organisation to ensure that all staff are fully aware of ‘Cyd Cymru’ and other support available. We will
outline the process for signing up to the scheme, as well as making the switch. These briefing sessions are not as in depth as the training, however, they
are a perfect opportunity to brief staff in team meetings.
If your service users meet regularly, we can provide talks to small groups on collective switching and sign people up to the scheme.
Attendance at events:
If you are holding a local event, representatives from Cyd Cymru would be happy to take a stand and bring some leaflets about collective switching and
energy saving. We will even sign people up to scheme during the event, to ensure they don’t miss out on the collective opportunity!
Attendance at your workplace:
We want to engage with local businesses across Cardiff and the Vale, therefore we can offer you the opportunity to have energy saving experts at your
workplace. Our friendly representatives will be able to provide you and your colleagues with expert energy advice, as well as signing employees up for Cyd
If you would like to book a training course/talk/briefing/attendance at workplace or a stand at an event with one of our representatives please contact me
with some suitable dates and I will do my best to accommodate your needs.
We will be sending updates to partners about the scheme when it opens. If you do not want to be included in these email updates, please let me know.
Feel free to forward this email!
